Diners rave about the freshness of the haddock, cooked to perfection in a crispy batter. The generous portions of chips complement the fish, drawing compliments for their crunch and softness. Many patrons adore the unique offerings like fried Mars bars and curry sauce, adding a twist to the traditional menu. The friendly and helpful staff also receive high praise, making customers feel welcome and valued. With a casual atmosphere and reasonable prices, this chippie exemplifies a quintessential British dining experience.

Most Disliked

Some visitors note that the space can feel cramped during peak hours, leading to a rush for tables. While the food quality remains high, a few diners mention the additional charge for sauces, which can be a minor inconvenience. Another common observation is the limited indoor seating, which may require some customers to opt for takeaway or wait during busy times. Despite these slight drawbacks, the overall experience remains positive, with food quality often overshadowing these concerns.

Merchant Chippie is one of the best fish and chip places I’ve had so far on my trip to Scotland. They use a haddock fillet and cook their fish fresh, which is a great choice. The fish is cooked to perfection, not too oily, and the haddock is very flaky. With just a pinch of salt, the whole fish is elevated. The chips are cooked to perfection and I love them. The place is quite small, with only about 6-8 chairs inside. Most people who order here are doing takeout. The prices are very reasonable for what they serve, and the staff is very friendly. I highly recommend trying this chippie when you’re in Glasgow!

Finally found the best fish & chips here in Glasgow. Hard to say after searching for ages. You will also understand that Merchant Chippie’s probably the healthiest of them all. (You’ll understand once you visit the place and eat). The curry sauce absolute banger! And yea their strawberry tart is really amazing. The chips tastes nice and soft! Highly recommended, any day if you’re in Glasgow! 💯

Best fish and chips I've had in many years. Although most customers seemed to opt for takeaway, there are 5 or 6 very adequate tables available by the large windows for sit-in. Staff are helpful, friendly, and efficient. Quality of the food is truly excellent. Shop is bright and clean. Price was reasonable. Overall a great experience and highly recommended. 👍

My go-to chippie in Glasgow! The haddock is always fresh and perfectly crispy—especially love the breaded version. Generous portions, great quality, and consistently delicious. Only slight gripe is the £0.40 charge per packet of tartar sauce, but honestly, everything else more than makes up for it!

It's was a nice wee find after a concert at the cathedral. Chips were lovely and the iced gingerbread was fantastic. Really well priced too.

The best chipper I have had and that includes many ranging from Aberdeen down to London. Super friendly, considerate service and the Haddock was delicious. Curry is the British Chinese style curry and is a perfect replica. Battered sausage - one of the best juicy sausages in light batter. Highest recommendation!

Fish was great! Deep fried Mars bar was a first - if you love warm, gooey chocolate you can't go wrong with it! Piping hot mushy peas. Lots of regulars came through while I was there. Simple vibe, solid fish!
